Read Romance Novel Reviews To Find The Books That Will Most Likely Appeal

By Brian West

Reading remains one of the great pleasures of life, whether it is for the purpose of learning of for pure pleasure. It is interesting to note that most avid readers still prefer real books over their electronic versions. Many readers favour specific authors or genres while others will read anything they can get hold of. Those that prefer romantic stories are in good company. This genre has millions of fans. Romance novel reviews help them to decide which book to read next.

One of the reasons why romantic literature remains so popular is because it allows readers to escape into worlds where they want themselves to be. Romantic stories may be pure escapism, but there is nothing wrong with wanting to escape, at least for a little while, to a make belief world where everything works out just the way it should be, at least at the end.

Their are many sites on the internet focusing on book reviews. Most reviewers blog their opinions and some of them are quite influential. Some reviewers will publish opinions on works from any genre, but many focus on a very specific field, such as romantic works. There are even many types of romantic publications and some reviewers will only publish critiques on a very specific area of interest.

The most well known type of romantic story follows a pattern where there is a male and a female that likes each other but that are kept from each other. They go through agony and hardship but eventually they are rewarded and their love lasts forever. Romantic works also address other fields, however, such as gay themes and even darker issues such as love within the context of abuse, religion and socially taboo circumstances.

When writing a review is is important to clearly indicate the target market for which the work has been written. Gay romantic literature, for example, may not appeals to middle aged ladies that want a hero and a heroin. The introduction to the review should make the broad approach of the book clear. This will help readers to decide whether the book will be likely to satisfy their personal preferences.

No reviewer worth his salt will ever spoil the reading experience by giving away the plot. They should rather focus on the quality of language used, the way in which the characters and their experiences are described and the extent to which the author has planned the development of the story until it reaches its peak. Comparisons with previous titles by the same author can also be helpful.

When writing their critique reviewers should never forget who the intended reader of the work are. They may personally find the work in poor taste, for example, but their own personal opinion is not really the issue. The issue is whether the book will appeal to the intended target market. Reviewers should therefore remain objective at all times and address their readers, not literary agents, publishers or literary experts.

Romantic works will continue to be popular because there will always be people who want to believe on love and that want to escape from their ordinary lives. One only has to peruse a bookshop to see just how popular this genre is. There is nothing wrong with dreaming about a romantic story. In fact, it may even be psychologically healthy.
