Improve Your Business Security With A Business Fire Alarm

By Mark Mahaffey

Have you purchased a business fire alarm for your building? If so, you may have some questions regarding the best place to put it. First of all, if you have only purchased one, consider buying more. It is important to have as many as possible in order to keep you and your workers safe.

Having several fire alarms will increase the odds that you will survive a fire if one breaks out while you are in the building. Putting it near the ceiling is smart, because heat and smoke tend to drift upwards near the ceiling. Having an alarm in this space will help to detect the smoke and heat quickly.

Put alarms outside of every office door, inside offices, in the kitchen, in your conference room and in your parking garage. Be sure to put fresh batteries in your alarm very six months. If you live in the part of the country which has a time change in the fall and spring, consider using those times as reminders to change your batteries.

Test your alarm every few months by pushing the test button on the appliance itself. If something goes wrong with it, be sure to replace it as quickly as possible. A smoke alarm that does not work will not help you when a fire breaks out.

Do you work in a school building? If so, you can best guarantee the safety of your students if you make sure that you have a sprinkler system installed as part of your business alarm system. The main thing is to let people know a fire has broken out, but in addition to this, controlling the fire is important.

If the size of the fire is hot huge when the sprinkler system is triggered, then the water that comes from them may be sufficient to keep the fire small enough until the fire department arrives. Make sure that the system you purchase is equipped to actually make the sprinklers come on when the fire alarm sounds. The sooner you can get the water started, the better.
