The Essence Of MEP Shop Drawings For Construction Project

By Debra Scott

Correct planning is crucial for the success of any construction work. Planning entails all the aspects required before implementing the building planning on site. Having great managers do not guarantee you success in your project. However, your project can succeed if you have proper preparations. Commissioning precedes any construction. Commissioning is done to make sure that vital systems are in place which includes; drainage systems, lighting apparatus, air conditioning devices and electric systems. Preparing and getting approval for MEP shop drawings is the biggest challenge that most of the contractors face in their job.

The shop drawings are significant in any commercial building development and a contractor or subcontractor has to produce the pictures. They are usually required for components that are brought to the site after they have been fabricated in another place. The components that need the pictures include; Millworks, units for hair handling, cabinets, elevators and structural steel among other elements.

On the other hand, prior to project owners giving contractors the task of doing a construction, they have to provide reliable drawings. The drawings remain of simple versions used as construction documents and will usually guide the development of building projects. They provide clear details usually difficult to understood and present within these construction documents.

Drawn details aid technicians in fabricating, as well as installing every necessary construction item in an appropriate manner. Illustrations by the architects are significantly different from documents developed by contractors including the construction material.

Essentially the drawn material that the contractor has should have precise details to ensure that the architect and engineer comprehend every detail in the right way before approving. The contractor version must be clear on the performance of the construction. Construction documents usually lack vital information and when developing a shop drawing it should include all the information that is essential.

Clarity gives you a higher chance of getting an approval for your shop drawings. Since architects and engineers have a lot of work giving those pictures that are not clear may lead to disapproval. When the engineers give a disapproval you will be slow when doing the real installation. Ensure that you have notified the architect of any changes that you may have made from the original construction document.

Architects and engineers get impressed when positive additions can be made to the copies and this positively impacts the ultimate outcome and implementation of the project. They also conduct quick approvals when you can eliminate details in the initial document that possess no positive effects on the actual construction. It is also essential to consider the initiation of productive dialogues that involve engineers, architects, and fabricators when certain details in your version lack clarity. Standard is another vital aspect to look into in creating copies of the initial document for construction and as such, understanding the precise developer standards is key.

When giving MEP drawings every component must have a difference. For instance, a picture illustrating an elevator should not be similar to picture showing an air conditioning system. Using color codes is good because you may need to make changes.
