Voip Atlanta Is The Rapidly Growing Communication Technology

By Stacey Burt

Innovations in communication technologies have come a long way. One of the technologies that is making it easier for people to communicate over long distances at a cheaper cost is VoIP Atlanta. Also known as broadband phone service or Internet telephony, this technology allows for voice communications using Internet networks rather than the normal telephone network. With some of the technologies, sending faxes, text messages and short voice messages are possible.

The working model of Internet telephony systems is not too different from the circuit-switched systems. When a call is dialed, the channel for transmitting the message is prepared. The voice signals, which are originally in analog format, are then encoded into digital format. The digital signals are then broken into smaller packets prior to transmission. When they arrive at the destination, the packets are then gathered together into the original message based on the header information assigned at the time they were disassembled.

The breaking of information transmitted over IP networks into smaller packets makes efficient use of network resources, if well managed. Since the packets can be transmitted independently of each other, the packets can be sent over different channels if more than one channel is available. This makes the transmission faster and eliminates breaks and delays that are usually associated with long distance calls on circuit telephony systems.

There are many technologies offering Internet telephony services. There are phone systems that are specially designed to work with Internet Protocol technology. These phones have the normal handset, buttons and cradle of ordinary phones but use an Ethernet connector instead of the normal telephone connectors.

Newer IP phone models are able to use wireless networks in addition to cable networks, while some only use wireless networks. There are special hardware and software components that make these phones capable of placing calls with wireless networks. Some of these phones have the ability to call or send faxes to computers that run on similar software. Some are also able to place calls to computers irrespective of the broadband network platform these computers use.

Because voice data packets are larger in size, a faster Internet connection is needed for voice calls over IP networks to be effective. Computers to be used for Internet call purposes need to have sound hardware installed, such as speakers and microphones. Software packages that serve as a platform for the voice call services also need to be installed. This software is usually available from companies that specialize in this kind of communication.

One main reason the usage of the Internet telephony communication is growing is the seemingly low cost associated with it. The software needed for a computer or phone to enable VoIP functionality is sold for very low fees, while many of them are completely free. In addition, there are no monthly bills to pay, except for the normal Internet Service Provider monthly bills. This makes it a cheaper service compared to other forms of communication.

Some social media providers are also providing IP telephony services. They offer tools that enable users to send text, multimedia and voice messages to other users. Since most of these social media services are free, users only pay the data usage fees to the ISPs.
