Understand The Different Branches That Members Of The Microbiology Society Belong

By Edna Booker

It is great to realize that microbiology has made this world a better place for everyone today especially by studying different microorganisms and controlling their harmful influence. Those who study microorganisms such as viruses, bacteria, algae, protozoa and fungi are called microbiologists and they form a community to make this scientific world stronger. If you have the desire to study more about these microorganisms, which your naked eyes cannot see, you should also look forward to joining the microbiology society.

Microbiology is a scientific unit with other several branches in it. Irrespective of the branch you choose to study, you eventually emerge a competent microbiologist. Mycology is such a major branch that you cannot ignore at all. Those who choose to study mycology will make efforts to know how yeast and puff balls grow, reproduce and cause infections. They also study molds and mushrooms in terms of the diseases they cause and how you can prevent them.

Other members you will find in this scientific community include those who study virology. From the science study of these microbes, viruses are neither prokaryotic nor eukaryotic. According to most scientists who are members in this community or organization, viruses are between non-living and living things. According to many members in this community, viruses cause diseases to animals, human beings and plants.

If you choose to study more about protozoa, you will qualify to join this community once you fulfill the assessing board with your scientific qualification. Protozoa cause various diseases such as sleeping sickness, amoebic dysentery and malaria. Those who study protozoa play important role in controlling malaria that kills most newborns, children and pregnant mothers due to their low immunity.

Behind the different infections and diseases are pathogens. These are microorganisms that access your body systems and reproduce there causing infections. However, they would continue causing these infections until these scientists discover how they cause them and their life cycles as well. These scientists also study about the physiology and genetics of these microorganisms especially those that cause leprosy, tuberculosis and typhoid.

Among other scientists you find in this community are those who study different processes of fermentation and their application. Fermentation is crucial to most industries since they produce their products through this process. However, some people do not know that certain microorganisms facilitate fermentation. Scientists in this branch explain how fermentation brings about alcoholic drinks.

Scientists who study immunology are also members of this community. These are professionals who study how your body responds to various toxins in the body. They also take time to learn how human body produces them toxins and why it produces them. If you also want to know how antigens contribute to the formation of antibodies, you can see expert who study immunology in this society.

The plastics and nylon objects you see around degrade with time depending on the microbial activity. Many people actually do not know that certain microorganisms are responsible for this degradation. The decomposition processes in most objects are microbial. The scientists who help people discover this contribute a lot also to this scientific community.
