Internet Marketing In Terms Of Miiverse

By Robert Sutter

If there's one aspect that I can give Nintendo credit for, it's that it is starting to make more and more changes identical to what the norm is. It's strange to say this because it always seemed like Nintendo was always its own entity, never following conventions. This has been a matter that has always been for better and for worse since positives and negatives alike can come about. However, in terms of Miiverse, how can Internet marketing come into the picture and go on to be utilized effectively?

Miiverse has recently been given an update and I feel as though it is more than worth talking about. What this update does is that it will be able to change the site around, its structure being more in line with that of Twitter. Instead of having to stick to specific subforums for the sake of posting messages, you now do not have to worry about selecting a particular category. With this concept in mind, I do not think that anyone can argue with the idea that the platform is that much more streamlined.

This is interesting because usually Nintendo has been the company that has been making trends in its own industry. Everything from motion controls to the standard directional pad we see today have come about thanks to this company, so it's interesting to see it integrate other aspects from different networks. However, it's apparent that Nintendo understands the weight of Twitter and how often people utilize it. Why not structure Miiverse in a similar way so that users will be more likely to incorporate it into their communication efforts?

Companies along the lines of fishbatunderstand the weight of Twitter and how constantly it is put to use. Messages posted are short and sweet, which is effective for those who do not have much in the way of time to spare. The idea of Miiverse adopting a similar structure is ideal but I cannot help but feel as though it needs more in the way of Internet marketing. If this is seen, I would like to think that Nintendo would benefit from a greater number of users.

Do I think that Miiverse has potential? While I do not believe that it's going to ever place the current social media channels we see today, it is a very interesting, self-contained platform. Only those who own Nintendo consoles are able to make the most of it and I feel as though there is a very friendly community, albeit one that is very young. While one may not be able to find the most developed of posts, I cannot help but feel as though this platform deserves merit.
