How To Survive Google Updates And Stay On Top

By Ayub Farooq

For anyone trying to make a living by Internet Marketing, the term search engine optimization is very familiar. This term, also known as SEO, involves the steps necessary to ensure your website is attractive to the search engines.

Since more people use Google than any other search engine, web owners are constantly trying to figure out ways to design their sites to get page one Google rankings. Many tricks have been developed over the years. These include using keyword phrases repetitively within articles, including specific keywords in the website URL and developing massive amounts of backlinks with specific keywords in the anchor text. All of these tricks worked --- until Google caught on.

From Penguin to Hummingbird, recent google algorithms have focused on ensuring high quality results. Sites that were previously ranked using spammy links, or stolen content were dropped from the first page, and in some cases all together. Hummingbird brought with it a clear emphasis on freshness, meaning newer blog posts ranked higher than older ones ensuring more updated results.

If you want to truly benefit from Google's continual updates, design an authority site. Provide informative information that is updated regularly. While it is okay to sell products, your information should not be influenced by a bias toward certain products.

There are a host of well versed online marketers who are willing to share their knowledge of the market. Keeping yourself updated on SEO practices is the best way to make sure you are doing what works to rank now.
